Mobile robots have experienced significant growth in recent years. However, they still face significant challenges in navigating and interpreting the environment when performing tasks in complex scenarios. This proposal is motivated by these current challenges and proposes the development of methods that enhance the autonomy of mobile robots in their navigation (localization, mapping, and path planning) in social environments and in their perception and interpretation of the environment using diverse sources of information and perspectives, considering the temporal evolution of this information.
All developments will initially be carried out in a generic manner, so that the implementation represents a step forward in the state of the art with a broad field of application. They will also be customized for security and surveillance applications, taking into account the specificities that arise in these types of applications, which make them especially challenging for tasks of navigation and interpretation of the environment. Research on these methods may also lead to more specific advances in the state of the art for this specific application.
